Tato norma specifikuje požadavky, které je nutno dodržet v budoucích výrobcích obsahujících digitální rozhraní a software pro servisní diagnostiku. Servisní diagnostika se bude provádět na osobním počítači a rozhraní pro tuto diagnostiku je založeno na IEEE 1394:1995 protože toto rozhraní bude používat většina budoucích výrobků.
