IEC 61587-2:2011 specifies seismic tests for cabinets and racks accommodated with IEC 60917 and 60297 series. It applies, in whole or in part, only to the mechanical structures of cabinets and racks for electronic equipment according to the above cited series of standards, while it does not apply to the electronic equipment or systems deemed to be installed within these mechanical structures. This standard does not apply either to a cabinet or a rack having an anti-seismic isolation structure, either external or internal. This standard aims to provide test conditions and criteria that constitute a reference to evaluate the ability of the mechanical structure of the cabinets or racks to acceptably withstand specified seismic intensities. For this purpose, this standard specifies test specimen conditions, such as dimensions (i.e. height, width and depth) of the cabinet and the rack, load distribution, structural test condition and the RRS (required response spectra) of single-axis or tri-axis acceleration as the seismic test wave condition. The single-axis or tri-axis acceleration is selectable. The second edition of this standard replaces the first edition published in 2000 and constitutes a technical revision. The main technical changes with regard to the previous edition are as follows: Edition 1.0 specified the test condition with one size of the cabinet, and one load distribution. The specified acceleration condition for the test specimen was single-axis and one of the RRS (required response spectra) specified in the standard was selected. The test was aimed to obtain the reference for the structural strength of the enclosure against the specified seismic intensity. Earthquakes are actually random phenomena that are much more carefully simulated by tri-axial simultaneous operation. The demand of tri-axial excitation has emerged as a more accurate representation of an earthquake. La CEI 61587-2:2011 specifie les essais sismiques pour les baies et les batis des series CEI 60917 et 60297. Elle sapplique, totalement ou partiellement, seulement aux structures mecaniques des baies et des batis pour les equipements electroniques conformes aux series de normes precitees, mais elle ne sapplique pas aux equipements ou systemes electroniques destines a etre installes a linterieur de ces structures mecaniques. La presente norme ne sapplique pas non plus a une baie ou un bati equipe dune structure disolation anti-sismique, quelle soit externe ou interne. La presente norme est destinee a fournir des conditions et des criteres dessai qui constituent une reference pour evaluer laptitude de la structure mecanique des baies ou des batis a resister de maniere acceptable a des intensites sismiques specifiees. Dans ce but, la presente norme specifie des conditions pour le specimen en essai, comme les dimensions (cest-a-dire hauteur, largeur et profondeur) de la baie et du bati, la repartition de charge, la condition de lessai structurel et le SRS (spectre de reponse specifie) de lacceleration a axe unique ou sur les trois axes comme condition donde dessai sismique. Il est possible de choisir entre acceleration a axe unique ou sur les trois axes. Cette deuxieme edition annule et remplace la premiere edition parue en 2000, dont elle constitue une revision technique. Les principaux changements techniques par rapport a ledition precedente sont les suivants: Ledition 1.0 specifiait la condition dessai avec une taille de baie et une repartition des charges. La condition dacceleration specifiee pour le specimen soumis a lessai etait monoaxiale et un des SRS (spectre de reponse specifie) specifies dans la norme etait choisi. Lessai etait destine a obtenir la reference pour la resistance structurelle de lenveloppe par rapport a lintensite sismique specifiee. Les tremblements de terre sont reellement des phenomenes aleatoires qui sont bien mieux simules par un fonctionnement sur les trois axes simultane. Le besoin dune excitation sur les trois axes a emerge pour une evaluation plus approfondie des tremblements de terre.
